Clinical Panel Coordinator

Job Description:

The Victorian WorkCover Authority is the state’s regulator on workplace health and safety with the aim to make all workplaces free from injury, risk and disease.

The Clinical Services Branch within the WorkSafe/TAC Health Services Group develops, utilises and promotes best practice injury management strategies, policies and processes across medical and allied health areas to ensure injured workers receive high quality and cost effective health services.

The Clinical Panel, currently comprised of 62 healthcare consultants and 5 support employees, is one of the teams within the Clinical Services Branch. The Clinical Panel is responsible for conducting clinical reviews as well as informing and implementing Health Service Group initiatives. Clinical Panel members include physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, psychologists, pharmacists, audiologists and medical practitioners.

Primary responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:

  • Coordinate, coach, educate, feedback and motivate clinical panel members to ensure consistent, high quality clinical outcomes for injured workers.
  • Inform, advise and educate stakeholders (e.g panel members, Agents, claims areas, medical and allied health providers, professional associations and injured workers) on issues relating to the clinical panel and injury management.
  • Assist clinical panel members and Agents interpret and understand policies and processes
  • Manage stakeholder queries, issues, complaints or concerns in relation to the clinical review process and the clinical panel through to resolution.
  • Prepare written correspondence, briefs and letters in relation to the clinical review process and the clinical panel.
  • Research, analyse, monitor and report on trends and anomalies in clinical reviews and stakeholder interactions. Develop and support recommendations to address these trends.
  • Identify opportunities, make recommendations and implement improvements to tools, processes, systems and work practices within the Clinical Panel and Clinical Services Branch
  • Administer and implement delivery of procedures and processes associated with the WorkSafe Clinical Panel (such as the restricted consultation process and quality assurance of panel members recommendations)


The successful candidate will have:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in health
  • Knowledge and experience in working within the health and/or compensable market
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills including the ability to write correspondence and coach others.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining collaborative relationships with others
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating, consulting, coaching and influencing people to achieve outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in working with stakeholders in the identification, research, analysis, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical panel processes and procedures.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, with attention to detail and the capacity to deal effectively with a diverse range of tasks and to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in a team environment where cooperation, negotiation and flexibility is highly valued
  • Sound competency with Windows based applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Note: If this temporary or secondment opportunity is made permanent, provided there are no identified performance issues the manager has the discretion to either directly appoint the incumbent to the permanent position or readvertise the role.

This is a full time, fixed term position available until June 2008.
The salary for this role is $69,871.00
