Purpose of the role:
Process FOI requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and the VWA’s FOI Procedures Manual;
Review decisions made by authorised Agents in accordance with the WorkSafe Victoria’s access to information procedures;
Advise and assist employees, senior management, Authorised Agents and members of the public on Freedom of Information processes and legislative requirements.
Ensure that the WorkSafe Victoria meets its statutory obligations and objectives in an appropriate and timely manner.
Primary responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:
Exercise statutory powers
Process FOI requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act and the WorkSafe Victoria’s FOI Procedures Manual.
Review decisions made by Authorised Agents in accordance with the WorkSafe Victoria’s Access to Information Procedures.
Stakeholder support & advice
Liaise effectively with applicants at all stages of the FOI process, communicating clearly and sensitively with individuals involved in the FOI process.
Advise and assist employees, senior management, Authorised Agents and members of the public on FOI processes and legislative requirements.
Identify business opportunities and solutions
Bring to management’s attention any urgent or priority matters, including actual or potential high profile requests and Ombudsman, Ministerial or other complaints or inquiries.
Ensure management is kept abreast of FOI requests, workload and systemic issues.
Administration and Data Monitoring
Record FOI request and decisions in a manner that facilitates the preparation of operational organisational and government reports.
Assist with the drafting and preparation of FOI decisions that proceed to internal review and/or VCAT.
Continuous improvement
Assist with reviews and continuous improvements of the WorkSafe Victoria’s FOI procedures, systems and associated manuals.
Undertake other tasks as required by management.
The successful candidate will have:
1. Knowledge of the administration of the Freedom of Information Act1982 and/or experience in working within a legislative framework and applying statutory rules, preferably in the freedom of information and/or information privacy fields.
2. Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders from government, the private sector and members of the public.
3. Good organisational and problem solving skills, including the ability to show sound judgement on sensitive matters.
4. Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and work environment.
5. Ability to work well in a team environment.
6. Ability to prepare clear and succinct briefings and reports.
Note: If this temporary or secondment opportunity is made permanent, provided there are no identified performance issues the manager has the discretion to either directly appoint the incumbent to the permanent position or readvertise the role.
This is a part time, fixed term position until May 2009.
The salary for this role is $63,549.00 pro rata.
