Job Description:
The Victorian WorkCover Authority is the state’s regulator on workplace health and safety with the aim to make all workplaces free from injury, risk and disease.
Project Officers in this Branch usually work with minimal supervision as part of an integrated small team to develop and implement innovative workable strategies to reduce occupational injury and disease for targeted groups. The development and implementation of initiatives and projects includes the development of supporting procedure and policy, and driving acceptance into the business and across a number of stakeholder groups including employer associations and representative bodies of employees.
Project Officers in this Branch liaise closely with the Director, management and field employees of WorkSafe’s Construction & Utilities Program.
Decision making in this role is usually within an established framework, and Project Officers usually make recommendations for approval by others. These recommendations are required to be supported by argument encompassing a variety of inputs and research.
Primary responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:
A Project Officer is responsible for the delivery of a variety of specific outcomes and processes that may include:
Stakeholder liaison and management
Consult with stakeholders throughout the duration of projects or initiatives. Stakeholder meetings may include industry forums and working groups. Coordinate and support meetings with stakeholders, including the planning and management of information. This may involve acting as chair and facilitator at meetings. Foster internal and external stakeholder acceptance of projects and strategic initiatives through the presentation of data analysis and recommendations.
Development of plans
Undertake project scopingto establish size, purpose and outcomes of recommendations. Develop project plans consistent with the divisional business planning process and the WorkSafe operating model in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and in compliance with organisational policy and procedure.
Monitor and co-ordinate progress and plan implementation
Coordinate project implementation, including identifying and addressing potential delays. Monitor project data and project status, produce implementation reports for internal and external stakeholders and project team with recommendations about progress, where applicable.
Research and analysis
Undertake planned research that provides an evidence base to inform decision making, e.g., analysis of data, trends across the industry or sector, emerging issues, and draft policies. Consult widely and develop ‘state of knowledge’ documents for the industry, where applicable, e.g., guidance notes, incident reports, checklists, communiqués to industry, etc.
Development of policies, procedures and support tools
Work with relevant internal units or Divisions to develop operational and technical procedures to support project or initiative outcomes, e.g. compliance protocols and tools for targeted projects where relevant.
Data management and compliance
Ensure accuracy of work, records and file management.
Public relations
Represent WorkSafe at a variety of public forums where appropriate
Occupational Health and Safety
Comply with WokSafe OHS policy and procedure, and legislative requirements.
The successful candidate will have:
Experience in project management of a number of complex projects and the ability to organise and prioritise work and complete tasks with tight timelines.
Experience in establishing working relationships and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to drive outcomes
Highly developed written, interpersonal and communication (including presentation) skills and familiarity with standard office software programs
An understanding of data interpretation and ability to use Excel and other software effectively for this purpose
Experience in providing advice to senior management on strategic issues
Knowledge of and experience in occupational health and safety and working within a large organisation is desirable
This is a full time, permanent position.
The salary for this role is $80,746.00
