Investigator

Purpose of the role: Investigators in the WorkSafe Victoria operate within different legislation, business units and external environments. Rehabilitation & Compensation investigators operate within a highly sensitive environment involving scheme abuse, including fraud and non-compliance.

This role is required to undertake the review and assessment of referred matters, making recommendations on appropriate enforcement actions and conduct investigations into contraventions of WorkCover legislation by individuals or organisations (including both civil and criminal jurisdictions)

Primary responsibilities and accountabilities of this role are:

  • Conduct initial assessment and evaluation of referred compliance matters
  • Conduct research and investigations into assigned cases
  • Resource and manage private investigators as required
  • Make accurate and timely enforcement recommendations
  • Identify and manage potential organisation risk
  • Complete files, investigation report and briefs of evidence
  • Provide expert advice to stakeholders on compliance issues
  • Administer specific compliance projects
  • Coaching and development of team members
  • Undertake continuous improvement activities
  • Comply with WorkSafe Victoria occupational health and safety policies

The successful candidate will have:
  • Experience in conducting investigations and a demonstrated understanding of the law and rules of evidence in both the criminal and civil jurisdictions, including the ability to gather intelligence, identify and obtain evidence, take statements under oath and conduct records of interviews.
  • Experience in the application of statutory coercive powers and the management of exhibits seized to ensure their reception into evidence.
  • A minimum of 5 years investigative experience within government based law enforcement agencies including the completion of an appropriate investigation training course, or 5 years investigative experience along with completion of a recognised investigation course or a relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and policy.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and carry them out with minimal supervision.
  • High level written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and negotiation skills, including the ability to deliver presentations to the public, peak bodies and other groups on the role of the branch
  • Ability to work effectively and co-operatively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, provide assistance and manage information.
  • Practical computer and keyboard skills.
  • Current driver’s licence.

This is a full time, permanent position.
The salary for this role is $72,666.00
